I Am Downtown Boston – Sarah Vazirani, Co-owner and Director of Operations at BRICK Boston
You might have seen her (or at least her high performance wear) around the CrossFit world, as the founder of apparel company Via Privé, focusing on technical performance wear for the CrossFit market. Today Sarah Vazirani is the co-owner and director of operations at BRICK Boston, the largest gym of its kind in the world in any Tier 1 metropolitan city. This luxury CrossFit gym, the first in Boston, is right in the heart of Downtown Boston. Going full steam since December 1 at 133 Federal Street, it offers CrossFit, Bootcamp(BX), Sports Massage, Private/Personal Training, and more.
At over 20,000 square feet and with 25 feet-high ceilings, this giant gym adds little touches to ensure their members have the best. Think laundry service that allows you to leave your sweaty gear for them to deliver back fresh into your overnight locker. There’s Sukesha organic hair care and beauty products, sports massage, towel service, WiFi, and a juice/smoothie bar serving Progenex protein smoothies, Caveman coffee and Paleo muffins. There’s even a Spine & Sport Injury Center offering physical therapy, chiropractic services and acupuncture for when you’re out of whack.
Here’s what Vazirani had to say about her role in helping build the perfect bodies – one BRICK at a time.
TheVoiceofDowntownBoston: Why DTX for BRICK?
Sarah Vazirani: We wanted to offer the best of what fitness has to offer to the best and the brightest! Downtown Boston is “the heart of Boston”. Being amidst some of the largest companies in the world, the area is densely populated and makes it attractive to us from a corporate wellness and corporate business point of view.
VoD: How have you been embraced by fellow downtown businesses?
SV: BRICK has been welcomed with open arms to the neighborhood, starting with the Downtown Boston Business Improvement District welcoming us to the area and including us in an announcement to all area businesses. We have been actively reaching out to area businesses by setting up personalized and custom plans for corporate wellness. HR departments and business owners love that we can have a class customized to them.
VoD: B/X is a BRICK-specific workout, correct?
SV: BX is a High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) type of workout. When BRICK first opened, it became obvious we needed a program that included CrossFit’s strength-building movements, omitting the complex gymnastics and Olympic weight-lifting exercises. It also needed to incorporate dynamic explosive movements as well as endurance training. Our trainers put their heads together to create a revolutionary program that combined all three of these disciplines. That program is BX. Classes are held in a supportive group setting and each features a series of stations that highlight different movements. Just like CrossFit, they’re are always different. BX is probably one of the most addictive workouts that delivers results quickly.
VoD: What are some of your own personal favorite elements of downtown?
SV: Downtown Boston has been going through a renaissance since early 2001. It started with the Millennium Partners erecting the luxury Ritz Carlton building. I was one of the early investors and bought my office condo on Temple Place back in the mid 2000s. Now Millennium Tower Boston has transformed the area and has started to attract businesses and residents that have started to form a melting pot. I love seeing the BID folks at work, keeping the neighborhood clean and green. DTX is “the place” to be. Nothing will slow it down in the near future.
